ENVIRONMENTAL cleanliness is an essential aspect to avoid diseases such as dengue fever.

With the recent heavy rains and flooding creating ideal conditions for the Aedes mosquito to thrive, Nasinu Town Council chair Felix Magnus has issued an urgent call to action for the community to help combat the rising dengue fever cases.

In a video statement, Mr Magnus highlighted the importance of environmental cleanliness in reducing the mosquito population, which is crucial in preventing the further spread of the disease.

“The recent heavy rains and flooding have created perfect breeding grounds for mosquitoes,” Mr Magnus said.

“To protect our families, every action we take matters.

“Regular cleaning and unclogging gutters are essential, as is removing discarded items that can collect water.”

To aid in the fight against dengue, Mr Magnus said the Nasinu Town Council was collaborating with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Environment, organising ward-to-ward clean-up campaigns over the next two weeks.

Residents are encouraged to clean their properties and place unwanted items on the roadside for collection.

A River Rd clean-up campaign is scheduled, and a community clean-up event will take place in New Town.

Mr Magnus said while the council and government agencies were working on addressing current cases, it was the collective responsibility of the community to ensure a cleaner and safer environment.

“This outbreak requires every one of us to step up and contribute.”
