Fiji’s ambassador to Japan Filimone Waqabaca is in the running for the Fiji Development Bank (FDB) CEO post.
This comes as FDB chief executive officer Saud Minam’s contract came to an end and was not renewed.
When quizzed about this, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka confirmed that Mr Waqabaca — Fiji’s Ambassador to Japan — had applied for the position.
“Yes, he had applied. He (Mr Waqabaca) had informed me that he had applied, and he has been interviewed and depending on the result of that interview, we will have to take it up,” he said.
“And then, we might have to find a replacement for him in Japan.”
Mr Rabuka was also asked why Mr Minam’s contract was not renewed.
“It was the end of his term. At the end of a term of a contract, the job should be advertised.”
Mr Minam was announced as the FDB chief executive officer on July 16, 2021.
He was previously the CEO of ANZ Bank Fiji and Commercial Banking Head Pacific.
