Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) will continue to improve existing schemes, says Public Works Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau.
Ro Filipe said programs such as rainwater harvesting which included the delivery of water would continue in terms of access to proper water and sanitation facilities.
“In addition to that, water carting to rural communities will be improved, particularly the monitoring of areas which have experienced prolonged periods of water cuts,” he said.
“In terms of access to energy the Coalition Government will continue to deploy alternative energy sources including solar, micro-hydro to replace the use of expensive diesel generators, communities and village operators are trained to effectively and sustainably operate and manage these projects.”
Meanwhile, Ro Filipe said the re-establishment of the Public Works Department would improve service delivery through the provision of reliable and sustainable work power supplies.
“Including minimum turnaround time for maintenance and repair, especially in renewable energy.
“And we are also currently reviewing the regulatory and institutional frameworks governing independent power providers.”
