Water Authority of Fiji CEO Dr Amit Chanan has commended the signing of the Master Collective Agreement with the National Union of Workers (NUW) saying it will ensure the authority continues to offer good conditions to its employees.

The authority and the NUW entered into the agreement last Friday and assures both institutions’ commitment to work with each other in good faith and maintain harmonious industrial relations.

Dr Chanan said the signing marked a major milestone in the collaborative journey between the two parties over the last few months.

“I thank the NUW for all the work that has been done over the past few months in making sure that the Water Authority of Fiji can provide a good working environment for all our employees. The agreement that we have signed today will ensure that WAF continues to be a great employer offering good conditions for our hardworking staff and at the same time strikes the right balance with WAF’s current financial challenges,” he said in a statement.

NUW secretary Felix Anthony commended WAF and welcomed the collective agreement.

“Let me just say that we’re also very grateful to the chief executive officer and his team for the way the negotiations were conducted over a period of time. We’ll make no secret of the fact that it’s been a difficult road for both of us to get to where we are today,” Mr Anthony said.

“However, I think the outcome of these negotiations and culminating in a collective agreement is good news for both WAF and the workers at work.”
