Invited guests, officials and traditional kinships have already begun arriving to the chiefly island of Bau where the Vunivalu na Tui Kaba will be installed in the next few hours.

Villagers and officials had started to put final touches to venues and equipment, as well as food preparation for today’s feast from as early as 5am today.

Young men from Nakorotubu in Ra began their role as traditional guards for the Vatanitawake from last night, in one hour shifts.

The ‘water taxis’ have been transporting guests to the island from the Bau landing from as early as 6am.

Police officers are also visible – officers are stationed at the landing and at the jetty on the island to welcome guests.
