The Vunivalu Clan stands ready to honour deep-rooted traditional ties across Fiji as they prepare for the final funeral rites of Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.
The household of the Tunitoga is mobilising to fulfil its sacred duty during the burial proceedings for the late Statesman.
Clan representative Fereti Silikula confirmed the group is prepared to cater for extensive customary connections tomorrow.
As the “mataki” or traditional envoy to various regions, the Vunivalu Clan plays a pivotal role in maintaining links between many vanua.
Mr Silikula noted the clan shares close household ties with both the Rewa and Lau.
“The Vunivalu Clan is the mataki to most vanua in Fiji, but most prominently Rewa and Lau,” Mr Silikula said.
Final preparations are currently underway to receive high-ranking dignitaries, including the Tui Nayau, Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba, and the Gone Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa.
Their arrival marks a significant moment in the mourning period as the nation prepares to bid a final farewell to the late leader, traditionally known as Na Turaga na Taukei Naisogolaca.
“The Vunivalu Clan is ready to to cater for Na Turaga na Tui Nayau, Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba and Na Marama Na Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Vuikaba Kepa, for their arrival for the burial of the late Na Turaga na Taukei Naisogolaca.”
The clan’s readiness highlights the enduring strength of indigenous protocols and the critical role of traditional households during times of national significance.
This cultural mobilisation ensures that all customary obligations are met with the highest level of respect and efficiency.
