Volleyball Fiji is focusing on rebuilding the sport through stronger governance, funding initiatives and grassroots development after missing out on regional qualification events.
Vice-president Elesi Ketedromo said the federation’s newly elected board was working to place the organisation on a more sustainable footing by reducing its reliance on individual financial contributions and securing funding through new initiatives.
“Volleyball Fiji is prepared to commit itself to gaining funds for the organisation through different initiatives that are now in place,” she said.
Ketedromo made the comments during a technical meeting for coaches and referees, where two new commissions were established to strengthen the development of officials and improve standards across the sport.
She said the response from the volleyball community had been encouraging, with experienced officials and new volunteers stepping forward to support the federation’s strategic plan.
The federation is also introducing stronger governance measures, including policies and compliance requirements for coaches and referees working with players and school-aged children.
Ketedromo said volleyball remained one of Fiji’s strongest community sports and the new board was committed to building a professional environment for players, coaches and officials.
On international competition, she confirmed Fiji would not compete at the Oceania Volleyball Championship, which serves as the qualifying event for the Pacific Games.
She said the federation was disappointed by the outcome but remained committed to returning to regional competition.
“We will not go away from participation in the future,” she said.
Ketedromo said Volleyball Fiji was now exploring opportunities to organise competitions with other Pacific nations that are also unable to compete in the Oceania Championship, providing players with valuable international exposure while the federation works towards re-establishing its national programme.
She said the board would continue working closely with member associations and the wider volleyball community to strengthen the sport and position Fiji for future regional and international competitions.
