Flying Fijians fly half Ben Volavola has opted out of his two-year tenure with Top 14 elite rugby club Racing 92 in search of more game time.

Volavola now joins USAP Perpignan rugby club in the second division Pro D2 competition.

After an explosive performance during the 2019 Rugby World Cup, Volavola came out the first choice fly half for Racing 92, but found himself outplaced by Scotland pivot Finn Russell and only able to make the starting line-up for two games during the 2019 season.

Seeking more game time, Fiji’s first choice fly half with origins in Nabitu Village in Tailevu has signed with second-tier Perpignan whose promotion to the Top 14 was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Volavola’s addition would be a boost as the Catalan-based club had been hunting for a playmaker who could occupy a number of positions in the back line.

Volavola joins fellow Fijian and inside centre Adrea Cocagi for a one-year contract.
