THE lived experiences of women experiencing the impact of climate change will be highlighted at the pre-COP31 Summit in Nadi next month.
And one of the organisations bringing these experiences to the forefront of the global summit is the German government funded program GIZ Pacific.
According to the agency, women from Nayavuira in Ra, Nabavatu in Macuata, Narikoso in Kadavu and Vunidavo in Namosi will be part of the Amplifying Voices of Relocation session.
Highlighting the importance of this representation, the head of delegation of the Federal Republic of Germany, secretary of State Jochen Flasbarth, said planned relocation was ultimately about people, communities and the places they call home.
“Germany’s engagement on climate mobility in Fiji is grounded in listening to those living these realities,” he said.
“By bringing women’s experiences directly into the Pre-COP31 conversation, we want to create space for community perspectives to inform the wider discussion on climate mobility.”
Giz Pacific’s Anina Vontobel reiterated the importance of hearing the lived experiences of women living in communities impacted by climate change.
“Women are not only experiencing the impacts of relocation, they are also carrying knowledge, responsibilities and perspectives that are essential to understanding what successful and inclusive relocation means,” she said.
A documentary by Giz Pacific will also be featured during the Summit that will be held from October 5 to October 8.
