Vodafone Fiji has been named as the successful vendor for Fiji’s e-ticketing system, following an extensive tender process.

Minister for External Trade and Communications Manoa Kamikamica confirmed this yesterday.

“Contract negotiations between the bus companies and Vodafone are underway,” Mr Kamikamica said.

“(These are) expected to conclude at least in the next few weeks.”

Earlier, Mr Kamikamica had confirmed that there were no plans to revive cash payments for bus services.

A team from Mr Kamikamica’s ministry was in discussions with Transport Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau, telecommunications providers and bus companies to determine the best way forward to enhance Fiji’s e-ticketing system, which has been the subject of numerous complaints.

The e-ticketing team was also tasked with working on eliminating challenges faced by people using the e-ticketing system, including the need for improved network connectivity.
