WITH a week spent in the country, the Scotland Rugby team has quickly adjusted to the weather conditions and is eagerly anticipating their upcoming Test match against the FIJI Water Flying Fijians.
Grant Gilchrist, the team second row player, noted the contrast in temperature between Scotland and Fiji.
While the warmth and intermittent sunlight posed a new challenge for the team, they have used their week of preparation to gradually acclimatise to the unfamiliar conditions.
“The weather Its normally warmer, then we use to have in Scotland, we had a week here to prepare and the way the Sun comes in and out, we are slowly adjusting to it, so it’s a little bit different from home that for sure,” said Gilchrist.
In terms of their game plan, Gilchrist acknowledged the differences in climate but expressed confidence in the team’s ability to adapt.
He adds despite being accustomed to a high-tempo style of play back home, the players believe in their fitness levels and are ready to implement their game plan effectively.
“We are professional rugby players, we use to play in a high tempo game, like to move the ball we know it’s going to be tough in this kind of conditions, but that’s part of the job and we believe we are fit enough to come here and execute our game plan.”
The debut of Fergus Burke for the Scotland team is a source of excitement for Gilchrist and his teammates.
“I’m really excited for him, his had three weeks in camp, he really impressed everyone his playing, and how he played last week, we really excited to have him in the team, it’s really a special day for him.
