An opportunity to exchange good Catholic cultural practices between Australia and Fiji was shared between July 9 and 18 when representatives of the Australian Catholic University (ACU) visited Catholic schools in Suva.
Catholic education director Nemani Drova said for the Fiji Catholic community, it was an opportunity to learn from each other given the fact that the Catholic mass, the sacraments and traditions are the same throughout the world.
“In the final analysis, the pastoral and spiritual enjoyment of the young people of Australia and Fiji was mutually beneficial.
“They evangelised each other, peer to peer, and gained from how they practised their faith in their communities.
“For example, the leader of the Australian team, Peter Woods, said that their visit to Fiji was like gold to them.”
St Joseph’s Secondary School principal Jacqueline Low copied the model of the music ministry from Canberra, resulting in a lively musical band and a joint SJSS and Marist Brothers High School choir with good instrumental backing.
The group was led by Peter Woods, the ACU and La Salle Campus Canberra director of teacher faith formation.
