WESTPAC has launched its online financial literacy training for Fijians wishing to attend from the comfort of their homes or workplace.

Believed to be the first of its kind in the Fiji market, the online sessions were held face to face with community groups, customers and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME).

Westpac Fiji Chief Executive Shane Smith said Westpac is harnessing the power and reach of social media to connect with more Fijians to encourage them to upskill themselves in various areas like budgeting, planning, saving and how to better manage finances at all stages in life.

“We’re proud to be one of the first banks in Fiji to explore virtual training sessions for financial literacy and encourage interested individuals to attend these free sessions,” Mr Smith said in a statement issued by Westpac yesterday.

“At the end of the course, participants get a certificate and resource materials to help them on their journey.”

Before launching the program online, the bank hosted its first virtual session internally to benefit Westpac Fiji staff “and the turnout was encouraging with over 50 employees attending.”

Over the last nine months from October 2023 to July 2024, Westpac has conducted free financial literacy training sessions for close to 6,000 Fijians. Participants get to choose between two different trainings; Financial First Steps for your family and Business Basics.

“This initiative reflects Westpac’s commitment to fostering sustainable business practices and economic growth in Fiji,” the bank stated.
