There is not a proper playing field in Waitabu Village but within a lapse of nine months, the Melrose Cup and the FIJI Water Flying Fijians have visited the village.
According to village spokesperson Joseph Stolz, the villagers are beyond blessed to have the national side visit them yesterday.
“We do not have a ground here, no team but we have hosted the Melrose Cup and Flying Fijians in the last few months. We just feel blessed that we were able to host the team in our village,” Stolz said.
According to Stolz, whenever any of the national rugby teams play, the village comes to a standstill.
“We do not have proper electricity in the village but whenever there is a game, everyone stops working and we all gather at the village hall to watch the team.”
The 64-year-old villager wished the team the very best for its games this year.
“We are so happy the team chose to visit our village. We just wish and pray they will do us proud in their games and hopefully we get more visits like this in future.”
