Preparations in Narocivo Village reached fever pitch ahead of the installation of Ratu Tevita Mara as Tui Nayau, with local leader Akapusi Bese describing the community’s effort as a tribute to tradition and identity.
Speaking of the excitement of the community, Mr Bese outlined how the women of the village had devoted days to preparing ceremonial attire and the sacred path from Valelevu, ensuring every detail met chiefly protocol.
“We have cleaned and decorated the path, every mat, every floral adornment, so that when our chief walks, it is in a space of dignity and honour,” he said.
Meanwhile, the men of the Maumi clan set aside their daily work, focusing on setting up traditional seating, constructing yaka kava areas, and ensuring roles were assigned for ritual duties.
“In Narocivo, this is more than ceremony, it’s our identity. We prepare not just for one man, but for centuries of tradition we carry forward.”
