FORMER footballers will have the opportunity to return to the field and showcase their skills when the RC Manubhai/Apco Coatings International Veteran’s Tournament is held in Ba from September 11 to 13.
The three-day tournament will be played at 4R Stadium at Govind Park and the Fiji Football Association Academy grounds in Ba, alongside the Extra Battle of the Giants tournament.
The tournament, organised for veteran players, will feature two divisions the Over-40 and the newly introduced Over-50 competition.
The Over-40 division will be limited to the first 16 teams, while the Over-50 division will accommodate up to eight teams.
Teams wishing to participate will pay an entry fee of $500, with registration forms available from the Fiji FA Competitions Department. Entries close on August 30.
Prize money will be awarded to the champions and runners-up in both divisions, adding further incentive for former players to get back on the field and compete.
However, organisers say the tournament is about more than competition and prizes.
The event is being promoted as an opportunity for former players to remain active, maintain a healthy lifestyle and help combat non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The tournament will also support the welfare of former footballers, with proceeds from the event assisting with the education of their children.
