For Vodafone Fijiana XV prop Bulou Seraseini Vasuturaga, balancing rugby and motherhood has never been easy but her determination and love for the game continue to push her forward.
The 33-year-old from Nagonedau, Tavuki, Kadavu, is set to feature in her third Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship when Fiji takes on Samoa in Saturday’s final at Lawaqa Park.
Vasuturaga brings experience, strength, and a quiet determination rooted in her challenging but inspiring journey as a single mother of four.
“It’s never been an easy journey for me. It’s very challenging as I always have to balance sport and family.
“But I’m glad to have a very supportive family around me,” she said.
Her children, a 16-year old daughter and three sons aged 12, 8, and 2 are her biggest motivation every time she takes the field.
Vasuturaga began her rugby career with Tailevu in 2020 and made her debut for the national side in 2022 during the Oceania Championship.
That same year, she earned selection to the Fijiana squad for the Rugby World Cup. Now in her third Oceania campaign, she is one of the more experienced forwards in the side.
“Training has been good and it’s a privilege to be with the Fijiana team again. Preparations have gone well, and we’re looking forward to what should be a tough game against Samoa. We’ve put in the hard yards.”
Educated at AOG Primary School and Suva Grammar School, Vasuturaga’s story continues to be one of strength, perseverance, and national pride as she represents her children, her island, and her country with every hit and carry.
