Vanua Levu Open Pro-Am Tees Off

THE inaugural Vanua Levu Open Pro-Am is set to tee off tomorrow at Denarau Golf & Racquet Club, bringing together some of the country’s top professionals and amateurs for a one-day showdown.

The event, sponsored by A Hussein Group, marks a significant boost for local golf, with a total of $8000 invested into the tournament. Of this, $6500 has been allocated towards the professional prize purse.

Additional support has come from Abid Hussein Transport and Yadua Beach Resort, highlighting growing corporate interest in the sport.

Fiji Professional Golfers Association officials have called on more corporate entities to come on board and support the growth of the game.

Leading the professional field will be Roneel Prakash, who enters as the top contender for the prize purse, with Zoheer Ahmad expected to provide strong competition.

In the amateur division, Nitulesh Mali is tipped as the favourite, while Raina Kumar is set to lead the challenge in the women’s category.

A total of 90 golfers are expected to participate in the tournament. Following the event, the Fiji PGA will also hold its Annual General Meeting.

President of Golf Fiji, Amitesh Chandra, said the tournament is a positive step forward for the sport.

“This is a great initiative, and we are grateful to A Hussein Group and all supporting sponsors for making this event possible. Corporate support like this is crucial in helping us grow golf in Fiji and provide more opportunities for our players,” Chandra said.

He added that the association is optimistic the inaugural event will pave the way for more tournaments in the future
