DEFENCE is the key to victory for the Fiji Airways Fiji Sevens team going into the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Cape Town this weekend says former Fiji sevens halfback Apenisa Valesu.

“There is a lot of firepower in the squad, and with Fiji we can score from anywhere,” said Valesu.

“Their defensive pattern which is solid already can be strengthened this weekend.

“Even that defence can be used again to their advantage and force a counter-attack.”

Valesu, a utility back in the 15s, was part of Tomasi Cama’s training squad in 2001 and made his debut for Fiji in 2002.

Valesu believes the Fiji 7s team will find their form this weekend in Cape Town and will end the first leg on a high note.

“If the coach Gareth Baber can find that and set his line-up well, it will be easier for them to progress in the weekend.”

Fiji, finish fifth in Dubai last week, is pooled with England, France and Kenya in Pool C with their first match against France at 9.59pm on Saturday night.
