The University of the South Pacific Students’ Association has demanded the resignation of USP council chairman Winston Thompson.
This comes after the executive committee of the USP council suspended vice-chancellor and president Prof Pal Ahluwalia for alleged material misconduct.
The committee’s special sitting on Monday resolved that an independent investigation be conducted against Prof Ahluwalia.
When asked whether he will resign from his position after strong protest from staff members and students of the university, Mr Thompson said it was not upon the staff members and students.
“That does not come into question. That is not for the students and staff to order that I do these things,” Mr Thompson said.
“I am an officer of the council, it is only the council that can make these decisions.”
