IN a festive effort to promote sustainability and environmental protection, Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka unveiled its Christmas tree made entirely of dried coconuts.

The unique tree symbolises the hotel’s commitment to eco-conscious practices while celebrating the spirit of Christmas.

Tanoa Hotel area general manager Narend Kumar said the tree was more than just a decoration; it represented hope, peace, and the enduring spirit of giving during the holiday season.

“We at Tanoa always ensure that we celebrate major events with passion,” Mr Kumar said.

“Just as each light on the tree shines brightly, may we all bring light and warmth to those around us.”

Mr Kumar expressed gratitude for the support from the hotel’s team and loyal guests, emphasising that their collective effort strengthened the Tanoa family.

“Together, we make this festive season even more special,” he added.

The hotel’s initiative aligns with its broader commitment to sustainability.

“Our Christmas tree, made from dried coconuts, is a classic example of how we can celebrate the season while being mindful of our environment,” Mr Kumar said.

“We believe that small actions can have a big impact.”

In addition to the tree, Tanoa Waterfront Hotel has undertaken several eco-friendly projects.

In partnership with the Lautoka City Council, they recently installed rubbish bins along Marine Drive to encourage proper waste disposal.

“We’ve seen a positive change with more people using the bins for their plastic waste,” Mr Kumar noted.

The hotel has also collaborated with Tourism Fiji on the “If You Can’t Bin It, Bag It” campaign, which encourages people to carry a bag to collect their waste and dispose of it properly later.

“This campaign has been well received, and we’re proud to support such initiatives that foster environmental responsibility,” he said.

Assistant Minister for Women Sashi Kiran also joined the celebrations, urging the public to prioritise family during the holiday season.

“This festive season, let us pay attention to our family — our children, our elders, and those who need our support,” Ms Kiran said.
