Three Fijian designers will be part of a week-long attachment under the wing of renowned fashion designer Karen Walker, thanks to a partnership between Wearing Fiji and New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).

A statement stated the three student designers, Heather Vakaosooso, Aisea Solomone, and Ledua Daurewa, had showcased their designs at the Wearing Fiji 2023 show.

“In a demonstration of unwavering support for emerging talent, MFAT has provided a unique opportunity for all three student designers to embark on a transformative one-week attachment in New Zealand,” the statement read.

“This immersive experience will include working closely with the renowned international designer, Karen Walker, providing them with invaluable insights and hands-on experience in the global fashion industry.

“This collaboration exemplifies the commitment of both Wearing Fiji and MFAT to elevate Pacific fashion onto the international stage and provide promising designers with opportunities for growth and exposure.”

Wearing Fiji co-founder, Samson Lee also expressed gratitude towards MFAT for its support.

He said the partnership had proven to be instrumental in providing a platform for emerging designers, and they looked forward to further collaborations that would contribute to the growth of the vibrant Pacific fashion community.
