THE Construction Energy and Timber Workers Union of Fiji (CETWUF) signed a collective agreement with Amex Resources Ltd on Monday at Lautoka.
In a statement, CETWUF national secretary John Paul said Amex had paid out workers Christmas bonuses yesterday.
“The union is grateful that despite some problems which Amex faced in the recent past, they have cooperated with the union and signed the Collective Agreement,” Mr Paul said.
The company employs a little more than 100 workers, 80 of whom are union members.
“We have also reached an agreement on the improvement of some working conditions for the workers.
“CETWUF and Amex Resources Ltd have agreed to meet in March 2025 to discuss the workers’ pay issues.
“The signing of the Collective Agreement is a major achievement for CETWUF in 2024 after many months of discussions with Amex.”
Mr Paul said he hoped other employers would also do the same with the workers’ representative unions and give workers what they are entitled to instead of making them run in circles.
“On the same note, this also shows the importance of workers belonging to a union to promote and protect their rights.”
