The UN Secretary General Special Representative on Violence Against Children Dr Najat Maalla M’jid was accorded the traditional welcoming ceremony at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva this morning.
Government ministers, senior government officials, members of civil societies, diplomats and former government ministers were also present at the event.
Prior to this, Dr M’jid met with Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Sashi Kiran and the ministry permanent secretary Dr Josefa Koroivueta.
The UN shared a long partnership with the ministry to advocate for ‘public financing for children’ towards the five year national multisector child protection policy.
This five year action plan provides a powerful tool for increased leadership and coordination by the ministry in the child protection sector.
The traditional welcoming ceremony was performed by staff of the iTaukei Affairs.
