Government runs only two out of 736 primary schools in the country, says Education Minister Rosy Akbar.
In a written response to a question filed in Parliament on September 2, she said one school was in Suva and the other in the Lautoka-Yasawa administration area.
Ms Akbar also said of the 172 secondary schools in Fiji, Government managed 11.
Data released by the ministry showed that 568 primary schools in Fiji were committee managed.
The Eastern Division recorded the highest number of committee managed schools with 113, while Nausori had 101, followed by Macuata-Bua with 82 and Cakaudrove with 57.
The ministry also said 166 primary schools in Fiji were managed by faith-based organisations with Suva recording the highest number at 45, Lautoka-Yasawa 29, and the Ba-Tavua area with 25.
The ministry said of the 172 secondary schools, 11 were run by Government, 87 were committee managed while faith-based organisations controlled 74 schools.
Nausori recorded the highest number of committee managed secondary schools with 15, Macuata-Bua and Lautoka-Yasawa both had 13.
Suva has 23 secondary schools run by faith-based organisations, the highest in Fiji.
