Update: 11:50AM TWO men will appear in the Rakiraki Magistrates Court this afternoon to face sedition and inciting communal antagonism charges.
Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald said information had been
received by police that training of ‘a seditious nature’ was being conducted in
the interior of Ra by certain groups.
“An investigation commenced thereafter headed by my Chief of
Intelligence and Investigations Assistant Commissioner of Police Henry Brown,”
he said.
“An earlier outcome of the investigations saw three men
produced at the Lautoka Magistrates Court charged with one count of sedition
and one count of inciting communal antagonism.”
Mr Groenewald said the investigations were conducted by a team on the ground to establish the intent of the alleged
seditious acts.
“Information was also received with regards to the use of
guns, however, I can confirm that we have not been able to substantiate these
claims nor have we located weapons to that effect.”
He said more people were expected to be charged.
