Many hearts have been joined together through social media platforms and this was the case for Ashna Priyanka and Siwan Narayan back in 2018.

Ashna, 26, is from Bulileka, Labasa and is the daughter of Avinash Kumar and Ashika Devi while Siwan, 29, is the son of Narain Sami from Velovelo, Lautoka and Uttra Devi.

Siwan had sent a random, ‘hi’ on Facebook to which Ashna responded and from that day through their vast conversations, a friendship was developed.

“He is a talkative person while I am a good listener,” Ashna shared.

“We always met and talked as good friends and shared stories and secrets but it wasn’t until mid-2022 when I fell in love with him.

“I knew I wouldn’t find a perfect guy like him even if I searched the entire world.”

Their first meet was as good friends in October 2020 at Grace Road in Damodar City and their first official date as a couple was in July 2022.

“We had a lot of fun while we dated as we both were the best of friends as well.

“I remember when I came back from Labasa and went to meet him and saw how happy he was to see me. He couldn’t stop smiling and couldn’t stop telling me how much he missed me and all.”

The couple dated for almost a year before getting engaged in December 2022.

“He proposed while we were having dinner with friends out in Denarau.

“While I was trying to sip my drink while walking, I suddenly saw him turning towards me while our friends were there ready with the camera.”

Siwan smiled at her, took out a ring, went down on his news and said “I can’t imagine my life without you in it, Ms Priyanka would you like to steal my surname and become Mrs Narayan?”

Blanked with shock for a while and getting sweaty from all the excitement and happiness, Ashna with tears in her eyes responded with a big yes.

With the help of family and friends, planning for the wedding soon began after the dates were decided from consulting a pundit in January 2023.

Their wedding took place on April 21, 2024, at the Shir Maha Devi Gangamman Temple in Ba.

“We had to wait a year because of the passing away of my paternal grandmother in 2023, and the pundit told us that April 21 was an auspicious day.”

The couple had a typical South Indian wedding that spanned across three days filled with music, buzzing excitement and delicious food.

“I wore a hot pink lehenga which was given by the groom’s side of the family as it’s in the South Indian tradition.

“My husband wore a white suit with a gold dupatta, and we had a lot of fun and danced a lot as well.”

Ashna said from her entrance to the mandap (covered structure with pillars) to seeing her husband in his suit, it was a day she had been looking forward to for a while.

“From taking the seven vows to the thali tying process, the hawan and the Kanyadaan (giving away the bride) which made me and my parents cry alot while my husband kept wiping my tears and consoling me, were all cherished moments.”
