Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew has issued a directive that two units in the Fiji Police Force (FPF) revert to their original names.
The Fiji Intelligence Bureau (IB) has now become The Special Branch and the Police Special Response Unit has taken up its old name of Police Mobile Force.
“It’s all part of restoring blue culture and going back to the way things were,” Mr Fong said.
The Fiji Police Force 2020 annual report tabled in Parliament recently states the former IB was the premier intelligence and surveillance unit of the FPF entrusted to provide on-time intelligence services to the FPF hierarchy, Ministry of Defence and the Office of the Prime Minister.
The IB department also provides static and mobile escort and guard services, VIP protection services and venue security and surveillance.
The former Police Special Response Unit is an operational readiness unit that is called in to tackle emergency situations and public disorder, among other duties.
