TWO players tested positive at the first day of the 2026 Extra Battle of the Giants tournament at Govind Park in Ba, marking a significant moment in Fiji Football Association’s efforts to uphold integrity in football.
Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf confirmed that out of the 24 players tested on the opening day, these two players returned positive results.
“We concluded tests on day one with 24 tested. Unfortunately, two players tested positive,” Yusuf said.
The two players will now face the Fiji FA disciplinary committee as part of the next steps in the process.
“So, the process is they will appear before our disciplinary committee,” Yusuf explained.
Drug testing continued over the next two days, with 24 players tested each day, but no further positive results were recorded.
In total, 72 players underwent testing during the three-day opening phase of the tournament.
The drug testing initiative is part of Fiji FA’s commitment to ensuring accountability and fair play in the sport.
The tournament resumes this Saturday with the semi-finals, as Nasinu FC faces Rewa FC, and hosts Dayals Steels Ba FC take on Global Care Suva FC for a spot in the final.
