DUAL international Lote Tuqiri expects a tough battle for the Flying Fijians at the Rugby World Cup this year after being pooled with hosts England, Australia, Wales and Uruguay.
Tuqiri, who is in the country for a short visit said while Fiji had beaten teams such as of Wales and Uruguay previously, things would be a bit difficult this time.
“It is a crazy pool,” the 35-year-old said.
“It will be tough for Fiji to win matches. They have done it in the past beating Wales and Uruguay but this Rugby World Cup is tougher. I know John McKee is a good coach and I think he will have them firing to go.
“I’m really pleased to be back but it is only for a short time,” he said.
“Fiji has come a long way and is hosting big events. The Pacific Fitness Gym is one of the best in the country. It is great for the local community.
“A lot of the teams can take inspirations from such places.
There is a set-up here so there should be no excuses.
“I have spoken to Sam Amin who is running the place and they are happy to accommodate any of the Fijian teams which want to come and use the facility.”
Tuqiri, who was born in Korolevu and raised in Namatakula, hung his boots after his Sydney Rabbitohs team won the National Rugby League (NRL) title in Australia last year.
He said it was the best finish he could have asked for in his sporting career.
“I had a really good end of my career with the South Sydney Rabbitohs. We won the Grand Final last year and what better way to finish.
“I could have gone around and played but I thought at that time it was the best for me to call it quits.
“I’m doing a few different things right now. I’m running a website linking brands with friends which is called www.fanplay.com.au. It is using social media and advertising at the same time. I’m getting that off the ground and trying to kick some goals in that part of my life.
Tuqiri said the youngsters should keep persevering.
