Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau has been appointed Acting Prime Minister until Thursday, a decision that raised eyebrows as two deputy prime ministers remain in the country amid ongoing political scrutiny.
The move comes as Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka exercises his constitutional power to appoint an acting PM during his absence.
“I have absolute discretion to appoint a Member of Cabinet to act as PM when PM is absent from Fiji (s92.4 of C 2013),” the Prime Minister said.
At the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute over the weekend, Mr Rabuka sent a clear warning: “There will be many investigations.
“Our country is going through very difficult and testing times when there had been a commission of inquiry and a lot of people are jumping up and down or wondering whether they were mentioned or have been mentioned and whether they will get into trouble or not.”
Meanwhile, Justice David Ashton-Lewis has assured that there was “no compromise” of the law or the inquiry during his recent interview with an Australian radio station.
