Fiji 7s speedster Aminiasi Tuimaba believes it will be a heated competition for all players hunting for a spot in the Fiji 7s squad to the Olympic Games now with the inclusion of overseas players also vying for a place in the final 13.

“With the inclusion of overseas players it is going to be hard,” Tuimaba said.

“It will all depend on how hungry you are and how you work for it.”

A number of overseas-based players have hinted their availability to represent Fiji at the Olympic Games including Scotland-based Edinburgh Rugby players Eroni “The Sledgehammer” Sau and Mesulame Kunavula.

The Yasawa-born winger who recently secured a contract with France-based Top 14 club Castres Olympique has also made arrangements with his club to make himself available for the Olympic Games and will not let the opportunity slip by.

“To play in the Olympic Games is the highlight of any sports athlete around the world.

“Fiji stamped its mark in winning the first ever rugby 7s gold medal in 2016, I want to be part of that history and also win that gold medal in Tokyo for the Fijian people.”

Tuimaba at the moment he continued his own personal training and is expecting the Fiji 7s squad to return to full training once the COVID-19 restrictions in the country is uplifted.
