THE establishment of the Tui Samoa cable also means protection of the communication line for northern users.
Telecom Fiji Ltd’s acting general manager business sales retail Joseph Naua said this meant that even during cyclones, the communication line would not be affected.
Mr Naua, who visited customers in Labasa over the weekend, said the protection of communication line was because of the submarine cable.
“The Tui Samoa cable has strengthened links and access to Viti Levu and for Vanua Levu, it now brings a resilient path for connectivity in the North,” he said.
“However, prior to this, it was through wireless radio and got affected with the cyclone.
“But now we have the Tui Samoa cable which is a submarine cable so nothing gets blown away even though we will still have towers as a backup.
“The submarine cable will not get blown away so communication for northern users will not get affected.”
Mr Naua said the company invested a lot in their network system. “When we do that, it gives us a strong platform to deliver quality service,” he said.
“Sometimes services at the front point gets flaky because the back system is rather old and this has multiple effects, so this year we have improved that and our customers have been provided the best.”
