A door for local rugby players to realise their dreams is what rugby league prop and Melbourne Storm player Tui Kamikamica says is a highlight of the recently completed Fijian Cup sporting festival in Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka last weekend.

Kamikamica mentioned the rugby league tournament which was held in the third and final week of the rugby festival was an area where young sporting talent was highlighted.

“It’s a good exposure for the local talent, we’ve got heaps of talent in Fiji,” Kamikamica stated in an interview with the Fijian Cup team.

“But just for them to get to overseas and this (Fijian Cup) is going to be a door for them to achieve their goal especially for rugby league or rugby union.”

He shed light on how festivals such as the Fijian Cup brought back memories of his childhood, when he would attend sporting events that were held with festivals.

The Fijian Cup also conducted outreach visits to communities in the Sigatoka area and donated equipment as part of the Donate-a-Kit programme, which Kamikamica said he had done last year in his home island of Taveuni.

“I’ve been doing that for the last couple of years. I went to Taveuni last year to do grassroots (visits), going to visit schools, villages for them because of them just see these players on television,” Kamikamica shared.

In the meantime, Kamikamica plans to spend Christmas with his family in Taveuni and looks forward to the new season of the NRL next year.
