The Criminal Investigations Department is on standby to act on recommendations from the Commission of Inquiry report into the appointment of former FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali.

Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu confirmed to The Fiji Times that he has already directed the CID to prepare for possible action.

“I will advise once it’s handed to them,” he said.

The CID’s readiness comes as anticipation builds around the release of the COI report, which is expected to address the legality and process of Ms Malimali’s appointment.

She was suspended on May 29 and later dismissed by the President earlier this week.

Commissioner Tudravu confirmed that a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka was scheduled and took place early yesterday morning.

Also present was Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai.

“The meeting was to discuss the COI report,” Mr Tudravu said.

The inquiry was launched following public and political pressure over the circumstances surrounding Mr Malimali’s appointment to lead the country’s anti-corruption agency.
