Former Fiji champions Suresh Chauhan, Epeli Bua and Yogendra Prasad will spice up the BSP Life Open Snooker Championship which starts at the Lautoka Club tomorrow.
The trio have vast experience playing the sport for more than three decades. Brothers Rahil and Sahil Prasad who are ranked in the top five are among the favourites with Nitesh Chand, David Reddy, Vinesh Prasad and Shalend Gounder, who have won the national ranking titles previously.
BSP Life Open Snooker Championship co-ordinator Ajesh Chand said they received overwhelming response with full draw of 32 players. Chand said pool stage matches would also be staged at the Nadi Sports Club and South Seas Club tomorrow.
“Players from the Southern Division have also registered for the tournament,” he said. “The winner will receive $300 while the runner-up will get $200. The losing semi-finalists will get $100 each while $50 each will go to the losing quarter-finalists.
The players have been training at their respective clubs for this tournament. “The players who are part of the North West Billiards and Snooker Association will be sharp since they have been participating in the league competition which resumed at the beginning of this month.”
