The case of Labasa lawyer Amrit Sen and two others accused of causing the death of John Rusiate in June 2022 will be called today.

Shumaddha Chandra, Maqtadeer Kaiyum and Mr Sen were to appear before Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu for pretrial conference, however, the matter did not proceed as scheduled last week.

Mr Sen and Ms Chandra are each charged with one count of murder, seven counts of attempted murder, two of assault and a count each of criminal intimidation and conspiracy to defeat the course of justice. Mr Kaiyum is charged with eight counts of attempted murder and aiding the duo.

The trio are alleged to have been involved in the fatal motor vehicle accident that took place alongside the Nasikasika cane access road at Korotari, Labasa on June 5, 2022.

Mr Sen is alleged to have reversed his vehicle which ran over the victim resulting in his death because of the injuries sustained.

Last year, the trio denied their respective charges in the High Court in Labasa.
