Fiji Football has achieved a remarkable milestone with three women senior players signing professional contracts overseas for this 2025 season.
This achievement is a testament to the growing recognition of Fijian talent on the global stage and the Fiji Football Association’s commitment to grassroots and competitive development.
Adi Lita Bakaniceva and Maria Veronica Maria will join Papua New Guinea’s Hekari FC, while Anegline Rekha has signed with New Zealand’s Western Springs.
The Fiji Football Association confirmed the players signing yesterday.
These signings showcase the players’ hard work and talent, inspiring young footballers across Fiji to pursue professional careers and highlighting the rising standards of women’s football in the country.
Talented Rewa and national midfielder, Bakaniceva signed with the PNG’s Hekari FC.
Celebrated for her excellent vision and ball control, she joined the club last week.
Her hard work and consistency had also earned her the Extra Supermarket Footballer of the year 2024 Female award, solidifying her reputation as one of Fiji’s best.
Veronica is set to follow Bakaniceva to Hekari FC today.
A dynamic midfielder, Maria’s adaptability and creative play makes her a vital addition to the team.
Rewa and national team defender, Angeline Rekha has signed with Western Springs in New Zealand.
Known for her strong tackling, aerial skills and leadership on the field, Rekha will depart for New Zealand on February 1.
Her move signals another remarkable step forward for Fijian women’s football.
“This is a proud moment for Fijian football. These contracts show that our players can compete at the highest levels and inspire the next generation of female footballers,” Fiji FA said.
The association’s investment in grassroots programs and competitive leagues has helped develop women’s football team across the country.
These three players shone during the OFC women’s nations cup and the regional friendlies, capturing the attention of international scouts.
National women’s coach, Angeline Chua praised the trio as pioneers.
“Their success shows what is possible with hard work and determination. We hope to see more players following in their footsteps.”
