The NGO Coalition on Human Rights in Fiji paid tribute to journalists killed in the Gaza conflict on Thursday night.
Part of the occasion this week featured discussions with Australian journalist Alex McKinnon, who shared insights into his life as a journalist covering the conflict and the censorship involved in the Israel-Palestinian war.
The coalition said more than 100 journalists have been killed in Gaza since the current conflict broke out on October 7 last year, adding more journalists have been killed in three months of Israel’s war on Gaza than in all of World War II or the Vietnam War.
The coalition had invited local journalists to attend and share a few words, however, women’s activist Shamima Ali said of the media outlets they invited, only one attended.
“Within the media outlets, we have Zionists themselves, so there is reluctance to report (on the conflict),” Ms Ali said.
