A tribunalwill be convened to look into allegations of misbehaviour levelled against Chief Justice Kamal Kumar, who was suspended from his position with full pay on Monday.

President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere endorsed the suspension on the advice of the Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.

The suspension was in accordance with Chapter 5, Part A, Section 111(4) of the 2013 Constitution.

The allegations of misbehaviour were formally put to the Chief Justice by the Prime Minister on January 24, for which a response was received on January 27.

Considering the nature of some of the complaints, the CJ was suspended from office, pending an investigation and subsequent referral to the tribunal.

Following consultation with the PM and Attorney-General, Justice Salesi Temo was appointed in an acting capacity as the Chief Justice of Fiji.

At this stage, Justice Kumar is not required to vacate any official residence he occupies.

Once appointed, the tribunal will liaise directly with the acting chief justice, Justice Salesi Temo, to determine the steps to take and procedures to govern further deliberations.
