The trial of those accused in the seizure of nearly five kilograms of methamphetamine at Nadi Airport last year will begin next month.
And the prosecution will rely on evidence from two former police officers who have been given immunity from prosecution.
Are Tania and Viliame Nalagi were initially charged with five others for the importation and possession of the drugs but were granted immunity last Friday and would now be State witnesses.
Their accomplices to stand trial are former Narcotics Bureau officers Apenisa Matadigo and Uraia Bolailai, former Fiji Airways driver Neumi Donumainasava, Nigerian national Chukwuemeka Phabian and former Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) intelligence head, Osea Dakai.
Mr Dakai is charged with one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs and breach of his secrecy oath under the FRCS Act 1998.
Represented by Redwood Law Firm, Fortis Lawyers, Toganivalu Legal and Legal Aid, the men appeared before Justice Aruna Aluthge. Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions John Rabuku represented the State.
