Trial date fixed for meth charges

A trial date for a man charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine has been fixed for next year.

Walter Fong, who is represented by lawyer Jiten Reddy is alleged to have been in possession of 0.0212 grams of methamphetamine in Lami on August 7 this year.

Mr Fong, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, is scheduled to have his trial commence on July 30 next year.

This matter was called before Suva Magistrate Yogesh Prasad.

Meanwhile, three men charged with unlawful importation of methamphetamine, will reappear for a pre-trial conference on March 17 next year.

Michael Malik Mudaliar and Sujeet Kumar, who are also represented by Suva lawyer Jiten Reddy are charged with one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs. The pair allegedly imported liquid methamphetamine of a total volume of 8.502 litres equivalent to a total mass of 8.3214kg. The incident is alleged to have occurred in Nadi between May 12 and 18 last year.

The pair’s co-accused Alvin Kumar, is charged with a count of aiding and abetting the importation of the drug.
