Fiji Amateur Boxing is taking center stage as they gear up to host the prestigious Tri-Nations International event at the FMF Gymnasium on June 27-28.

This competition will see the participation of 30 boxers from Australia and another team of 13 boxers from Samoa.

According to Fiji Amateur Boxing’s head coach, Cam Todd, the upcoming event presents a fantastic opportunity for the young boxers to gain valuable experience and exposure in international competitions.

“It should be a very good event for our Junior and youth boxers of all different levels, to give them an opportunity to have something international boxing,” said Todd.

“The preparation is going well, we are not in Camp now except for the boxers that I am taking to Australia next month for the golden gloves.

“But a number of these boxers will be competing in the tri-Nations as well.”

One of the primary objectives of Fiji’s amateur boxing program is to nurture and develop Junior and youth boxers.

This is to provide them with opportunities to participate in international competitions that contribute to the growth of the sport as a whole.

Todd emphasises the importance of establishing a strong amateur pathway for the young boxers.

“The main aim now for amateur boxing is to continue to develop our Junior and youth boxers and be exposed to international competition which helps develop our sport as a whole.

“And the young boxers that I’m looking at now are the ones which we will be looking at for future international events like commonwealth Games Pacific games and Olympics etc.

“So, they need to have a long and strong amateur pathway so they can succeed when they get to these big events overseas.

Todd urges the public to show their support for the young athletes by attending the matches on June 27-28 at the FMF Gymnasium.

He added the event is expected to be the largest international amateur competition hosted in Fiji. In the past Fijian boxers would have to travel overseas for chances like this.
