FIFTY-THREE seafarers were last month trained on Yanuca Island on navigation, maintenance, voyage planning and use of equipment out at sea.
The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) conducted the training from July 17 to July 28. The Boat-Masters and Class 6 Restricted Master/Engineer Training also ensured the seafarers were up to date with their knowledge on safety.
“MSAF conducts this training on a regular basis to ensure seafarers, particularly in rural areas, have regular and affordable access to important safety and general maritime training,” said MSAF chief executive officer John Tunidau.
Training was made available to seafarers from Yanuca and surrounding areas including Beqa, Lepanoni, Naboutini, Vunaniu, Deuba, and Serua.
The training included the use of important life saving appliances (LSA) such as life jackets which MSAF has made available at Post Fiji offices across Fiji.
