Police have confirmed that a firearm reportedly seen in Nabua was in fact a toy, following initial investigations.
In a statement, the Fiji Police Force said the owner of the vehicle linked to the sighting was brought in for questioning.
“He confirmed that at the time of the sighting, his son was holding a toy gun that matched the description given by the security officer,” the statement said.
The item was later examined by the Force Armourer and identified as similar to a ball bearing (BB) gun.
Police noted that while such items are often treated as toys, investigations are continuing to determine where the gun was sourced.
Investigations remain ongoing.
