PARTNERSHIPS between town councils and surrounding urban villages are essential to foster a clean and green environment, says Minister for Local Government Parveen Kumar.
He made these comments while congratulating the Lami Town Council for their partnership with Lami Village.
“The partnership between Lami Town Council and Lami Village has seen effective solid waste management services being made available at the village on a user pay basis,” Mr Kumar said.
“In my recent meeting with special administrators and chief executive officers, I have stressed the importance for councils to partner with nearby urban villages for the purpose of fostering clean and green environment.”
Mr Kumar also urged residents of Lami to co-operate with the council in advancing development in the town.
“You all, I am sure, have that sense of ownership for your town, and as a team can progressively assist in town development.”
Meanwhile, all municipal councils are expected to roll out special beautification projects in partnership with urban villages from January.
