EXPERIENTIAL tourism is making a mark in Fiji’s tourism industry and locals are the driving force behind it. Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association (FHTA) CEO Fantasha Lockington said tourists were preferring to explore what each country had to offer outside of the resort.
“That means that we provide the experiences for how we shop, how we eat, how we have fun, how we entertain, how we share everything that we have,” Ms Lockington said.
“It is really exciting.
“It is exciting to see young people coming into it, even older people who have started a business but want to go a little bit further expanding it into tourism because tourism provides that sort of opportunities and pathways.
“It does not matter where you live or where you are located. What you are bringing is usually what our visitors want to see.”
She said the association, alongside Tourism Fiji and Government, were encouraging locals to venture into this sector.
“If you’ve got an experience that you can share, that has to do with the water. If you have a business that is doing really innovative stuff in sustainability for example, these are the kind of things that people are coming to Fiji for.”
