Tourism Minister hopes for good allocation

TOURISM, Trade and Industry Minister Faiyaz Koya is hoping the budget will be enough to strengthen his ministries.

He said there were some specific areas in his ministry that required consideration and he had brought it to the attention of the Ministry of Finance.

“Obviously, we’ve made submissions with respect to Tourism Fiji and with respect to the small and micro enterprises sector,” he said.

“Those are the two main ones and in addition we made submissions for Investment Fiji, the Consumer Council of Fiji and the Commerce Commission.

“We are hoping to see a strengthening of these organisations in terms of budget.”

He said there were also some departments that were in need of budget strengthening after Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston.

“From my ministry’s perspective the Department of National Trading is also in need of some strengthening especially after Winston.

“It’s all of those areas that need strengthening and we are hopeful.

“We will see what our Minister for Finance comes up with.”
