Former Flying Fijian Isoa Domolailai believes the Simon Raiwalui-coached side has a tough battle ahead of them in pool C as they face Australia, Wales, Portugal and Georgia at this year’s Rugby World Cup.

“It will be a tough battle as we are playing big names – Wales, Australia and even Georgia, who stunned the Red Dragons last year,” he said.

Domolailai, who was part of the Flying Fijians 2007 Rugby World Cup squad that reached the quarter-finals, said there was a good mixture of players – from the Fijian Drua players and the experienced Europe-based players.

“They both have different styles of the game and it is a good mix. The match against England showed the team gelled together.

“Their preparation itself for the World Cup was on the right track as Simon (Raiwalui) had taken them to Taveuni and made the players bond really well.”

He added that recovery after matches was another factor that could come into play.

“It is something that is very important as niggling injuries is a common occurrence. They need to focused on the task at hand and I believe the coaching staff, knows exactly how the team need to handled.

“I think, they have been together for eight weeks now and I believe they know what they need to do on match day.”

Domolailai added that the players need to be mindful of their discipline as referees are very particular about infringements committed by Pacific Island teams.

“My advise to them is to maintain composure and maintain discipline.”

Fiji play Wales at 7am on Monday.
