AFTER more than 30 years away from competition, the newly revived Topline Netters Netball Club rejoined the senior division of the Lautoka Netball Association this season, marking a major comeback for the community-based club.

The club, re-established by members of the Topline community living in the Natokowaqa and Banaras, Lautoka area, returns with a strong focus on championing youth development and social change.

In a statement, Topline Netters said the revival of the club was not only about sport, but also about addressing social issues affecting the area, particularly drug-related problems and youth involvement in criminal activities.

“Topline is always known for law-breaking activities involving youths. This initiative is a big boost and a relief for the community, using sport to engage young people and keep them active,” the club said.

The club confirmed it was originally formed alongside a rugby team that competed in local Lautoka competitions, and netball had been added as part of the wider sporting revival.

“We not only involve ourselves in sports, but also community work. Our youths will visit widows and senior citizens in the community,” the club added.

It draws its players strictly from within the community, including Banaras, Natokowaqa and the wider Topline settlement areas.

“We are not getting players from outside our community, all our players are from here.”

The return of Topline Netters is expected to add fresh energy to the Lautoka netball competition while also strengthening community ties through sport and outreach programs.
